India’s gem and jewellery exports recorded a strong recovery in June 2026, with gross exports rising 26.51% year-on-year to $2.21 billion (Rs 21,010.78 crore), compared with $1.75 billion (Rs 15,023.07 crore) in June 2025, according to data released by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).

The growth was supported by improved demand across key international markets and a correction in global gold prices, which enhanced the price competitiveness of Indian exports. During the month, international gold prices declined by 10.28% from May levels, lowering raw material costs for manufacturers and exporters.

Among product categories, gold jewellery exports recorded the strongest performance, increasing 54.5% year-on-year to $1.09 billion. Cut and polished diamond exports rose 8.71% to $846.7 million, while laboratory-grown polished diamond exports grew 52.25% to $101.35 million. Exports of platinum jewellery also registered growth, although silver jewellery and coloured gemstones recorded declines during the month.

Commenting on the performance, Kirit Bhansali, Chairman, GJEPC, said, “The strong rebound in June exports reflects the resilience of India’s gem and jewellery sector amid an evolving global trade environment. While exports during the April–June quarter remained broadly stable, the sharp recovery in June is an encouraging sign for the months ahead.”

Bhansali added that sustained demand from major markets, continued efforts to diversify export destinations and recently concluded trade agreements, including the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), are expected to support export growth in the coming months.

For the April–June 2026 period, India’s gross gem and jewellery exports remained broadly stable at $6.61 billion (Rs 62,588.61 crore), registering marginal growth of 0.04% in dollar terms over the corresponding period last year, reflecting the sector’s resilience despite ongoing global economic uncertainty.
