De Beers geologists, while scouting for diamonds off the Namibia coast, got hold of a different treasure, an ancient sailing ship of 1500s that is still filled with treasures. The discovery was of thousands of Spanish and Portuguese gold coins minted in the late 1400s and early 1500s, more than 50 elephant tusks, tonnes of copper, pewter tableware, navigational instruments and six bronze cannons. %% The Namdeb Diamond Corp. says that it could be the oldest sub-Saharan shipwreck ever discovered and it would hand over the treasure to the state. Speculations are that the treasure might belong to the likes of Diaz, Da Gama and Columbus, making it Namibia's most important archaeological find of the century.
