Blue Nile has reported an increase in its net sales by 4 percent during the first quarter ended March 30, 2008. Net sales amounted to $70.5 million above the $67.9 million sales last year in Q1. Although the net sales did increase, the sluggish economic environment in the US played a toll on the net profits, which declined by 19 percent to $2.571 million, from $3.163 million in 2007. Internationally, sales scaled by 124 percent to $5.7 million. %% To tackle this issue, the company will keenly focus on customer experience and cost management. The company has launched its services in 25 new countries and repurchased 990,700 shares of its common stock for $41.7 million.
