The total sales for retail jeweller Signet, dropped by 7 percent amounting to $762.6 million during the first quarter ended May 2, 2009. The company’s group same-store sales were lowered by 3 percent in the three months. The retailer noted an increase in sales during Valentine’s Day, in comparison to sales during the other days of the three months. Sales in U.K. market dipped by 28 percent in dollar terms for the company and amounted to $137.8 million, while Signet’s same-store sales in the U.K. dropped by 4 percent. In the U.S., Signet’s sales were lower by 1 percent and same-store sales by 3 percent.
