Reports from Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) show India’s gems and jewellery exports declining by 5.57 percent in May 2009, over the same month last year, when it amounted to Rs.7997.93 crores. Total gems and jewellery export from the country was worth Rs.7552 crores in May 2009. %% The month saw the export of cut and polished diamonds dipping by 13.8 percent in the month and amounting to Rs.4409 crores, while it amounted to Rs.5116 crores in May 2008. Also, exports of gold jewellery increased by 10 percent in the said month and valued at Rs 2694 crores, while in May 2008 it amounted to Rs 2450.13 crores.
