During the three months and one week that ended June 27, 2009, sales at Birks & Mayors dropped by 26 percent to $53.6 million. The retailer attributes the low sales reflects the ongoing slowdown in the economy, reduced consumer confidence and demand for luxury goods. %% Same-store sales dipped by 20 percent in the first quarter of 2010, and included a 26 percent drop in the U.S., and 13 percent in Canada. Reports say, that $4.3 million worth of reduction in the sales was due to the conversion of sales figures in Canada, into U.S. dollars.
