During November 2009, India’s polished diamond exports valued at $1.34 billion, rising by almost twice the polished exports recorded in November 2008. In volume terms, the country’s polished exports increased by 95 percent to 3.898 million carats, in the month. The average price of polished diamonds amounted to $344.44 per carat, rising by 14 percent. The country’s polished diamond imports in the said month also increased by 67 percent to $901.37 million. %% The net polished exports (reflecting the excess of exports over imports) increased seven times to $441.2 million. %% India’s imports of rough diamonds in November this year, rose by 43 percent to $897 million, and in volume terms increased by 88 percent to 15.297 million carats, with their average price dipping by 24 percent to $58.64 per carat, reports say. Exports of rough diamonds increased by 48 percent to $65 million and the net rough imports ( excess of imports over exports) increased by 43 percent to $832 million. %% The country’s net diamond account showed an improvement of 25 percent to amount to a deficit of $390.8 million.
