At the end of the third quarter, Rio Tinto saw its overall diamond production rise by 27 percent to 3.54 million carats. Its production at individual mines were noted as - Argyle mine produced 7 percent more diamonds to 2.4 million carats, Diavik mine production stepped up 115 percent to 1.1 million carats and Murowa mine production rose 147 percent to 42,000 carats. %% The mining giant has also approved $803 million worth of funds to be implemented in moving operations underground at Argyle. The project had been pending for sometime owing to the economic slowdown. The company also noted production of gold dip by 33 percent to 187,000 ounces and silver by 25 percent to 1.6 million ounces, in the said quarter.
