Net sales at Asian Star were up by 21 percent to $97.7 million at the end of the second fiscal quarter closing September 30, 2010. In the said three months, there was a 35 percent drop in net profits to $1.5 million. Expenses jumped 24 percent to $94.6 million. %% Sales at its cut and polished diamond unit rose 29 percent to $93.5 million and profit before interest and tax of this unit dropped 19 percent to $2.1 million. The jewellery unit sales stood flat at $10.5 million and its profit before interest and tax dipped 58 percent to $561,100. The company is a leading diamantaire headquartered in Mumbai.
