Mumbai, India’s hub for gem and jewellery trade has been victim to a set of gem and jewelery thefts and crimes, recently. At an elite wedding of a Union minister's relative in the city, gold, diamond jewellery and a mobile phone worth a total of Rs24.33 lakh had been reportedly stolen. Reports further suggest that the stolen jewellery belonged to the bride. The theft has been registered with the local police and a further investigation is on. %% In another incident, a diamond trader in Mumbai’s Malad suburb was shot at by an ex-employee. The victim Govindbhai Damaji Tank, 42, operates a diamond polishing unit in Dahanu compound and was shot a round of bullets by his ex-employee Himmatbhai Rancchodbhai Makwana, 50. Makwana surrendered to the nearby Kurar police station. Reports suggest that Makwana used to work with Tank 13 years ago and was victim to his assaults and allegations of inefficient work and stealing diamonds. He waited for Tank to reach office in the morning when he fired the bullets. Tank is in a nearby hospital in the ICU and is reported to be in a critical state. The police has registered a case of attempt to murder against Makwana and produced him in court.
