The All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) is all geared up for the inaugural edition of the GJS -- India Gem & Jewellery Show, 2022, which is being held between April 3 and April 6 at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai. It will be the first B2B jewellery expo of GJC, which has been preparing for the event for a long time. GJS was originally scheduled to be held in 2020, but it had to be postponed in view of the pandemic. With the dates now fixed, Ashish Pethe, Chairman, GJC, is both excited and a little nervous.

“We are pulling out all stops to make the show a grand success,” he says, adding, “GJS -- India Gem & Jewellery Show is the most awaited event of our industry, and the excitement has been building up since the day we announced this event. Right now, things are very hectic, we are doing a number of roadshows, and reaching out to as many cities and towns as possible.”

US VS THEM: GJC’S TAKE ON HOW ITS EVENT WILL BE DIFFERENT
With more than 60 trade events taking place in a year, how does GJS plan to differentiate its expo from other shows? Pethe has an answer ready. “We, at GJC, are a breed apart. The kind of experience that all of us carry, especially our committee members, is unmatched. Just see, GJS will be different from other shows. It has been conceived from the core values of GJC, which encourage involvement of each stakeholder of this industry, hence the show is commonly termed as ‘Humara Apna Show’, which is the tagline with which it is being promoted. We have ensured that each registered member is acknowledged, involved and has a say in the show.

“Take a look at the highlights of the show -- more than 600 exhibitors, 15,000+ national and international buyers, 1277 stalls. Mumbai's Jio World Convention Centre, which has 25.000 sq.m. of space, will be ideal for a show of this magnitude. We will have segments like gold, diamond-studded jewellery and other jewellery, loose diamonds and other gems, as well as a segment we are titling ‘allied and machinery’.”

Incidentally, GJC was constituted almost 16 years back, with the aim of protecting the industry, facilitating its smooth functioning and solving its problems. It organizes many seminars throughout the year that tackle issues like technology, latest taxation rules, how jewellers can improve their management, and so forth. It has all the verticals under its fold -- manufacturers, retailers, gold, diamonds, silver, etc. Hence, an expo of this kind has been on the cards for a long time.

“We have a whole gamut of sectors in our ambit. It is our duty to promote trade among all the constituents of the industry. So, holding a national level show like GJS comes naturally to us,” explains Pethe.

We are pulling out all stops to make the show a grand success. GJS -- India Gem & Jewellery Show is the most awaited event of our industry, and the excitement has been building up since the day we announced this event. Right now, things are very hectic, we are doing a number of roadshows, and reaching out to as many cities and towns as possible. ASHISH PETHE Chairman, GJC
