G & J Bachelor's Programme Takes a Leap

On November 18, the Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery, Mumbai signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the prestigious Savitribai Phule Pune University for offering a 3 Year Bachelor of Arts in Gems & Jewellery Designing

The MoU weas signed in the historic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hall in the SPPU campus. The MoU was signed by SPPU Registrar Dr Prafulla A. Pawar and IIGJ Mumbai Chairman Mr. Kirit Bhansali in the presence of SPPU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nitin Karmalkar, Chairperson Dr (Capt.) C. M. Chitale, IIGJ Head of the Institute Mr. Sanjoy Ghosh and other distinguished guests from both the institutions.

This collaboration between the Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery, Mumbai and Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune now gives recognition to the importance of research and development in the gems and jewellery sector in India and marks the first step in providing formal education and training in this fast growing sector. The partnership between the two institutions will help to further the cause of a skill-based education in gems and jewellery in India.

The courses to be offered to students by the SPPU/IIGJ combine shall be a highly skill-based, career-oriented and R & D focused programme. It is especially designed to enable and empower young professionals with a passion for jewellery designing, arts and craft to handle every aspect of the jewellery trade in the future. 

IIGJ Mumbai’s contribution to this collaboration shall be in sharing with SPPU Pune more than 26 well-trained and experienced faculty members, a state-of-the-art manufacturing workshop and a 50-station digital design software laboratory offering the latest technology. IIGJ takes pride in nurturing its students to self-discover their own space in a jewellery career.

The SPPU/IIGJ combine is poised to be the most innovative and dynamic jewellery training university course in the country. The  08SPPU/IIGJ policy shall always be ‘students first’ and it will seek to do everything it can to create a memorable and life-expanding experience for its students.
