Addressing an international cohort of graduate students at the Politecnico di Milano in Milan, Italy, Dr. Gaetano Cavalieri, President of the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO), underscored the imperative for jewellery, gemstone, and precious metals industries to adopt coherent strategies integrating environmental and social sustainability, responsible sourcing, and robust governance practices. Emphasizing that aligning business and marketing plans with CSR, sustainability, and ESG principles is not only ethically sound but also strategically advantageous, he highlighted the increasing consumer demand for products that resonate with their values. Dr. Cavalieri asserted that by embracing sustainability, the industry has the potential to redefine the value proposition of its products, positioning them not only as symbols of love and beauty but also as agents for positive societal change.
