While Macau was celebrating its very first diamond trade fair, there were two attempts at committing fraud, by replacing real diamonds with fake ones. As reported by the Chinese media, two Chinese men approached two booths and pretended to be buyers looking at the stock. They once again returned to the booths and asked to see the diamonds again, and while doing so, exchanged the originals with their fake replicas.%%On the first occasion, both men saw a 3 carat stone, while at the second booth they were looking at a 4 carat stone. The two booth owners identified that the stones were counterfeit and alerted the local police, which caught the frauds with their bags of other diamond copies. According to the police, the copies were of high quality.
