Maharashtra Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan has urged the Indian jewellery industry to capitalize on the nation's rich heritage and innovation in the sector by creating a world-class, internationally recognized jewellery brand. Speaking at the inauguration of the India International Gem and Jewelry Show (IIJS) on Thursday, Governor Radhakrishnan emphasized the need for Indian jewellers to go beyond traditional craftsmanship and create unique pieces of art that could stand out on the global stage.

"India has a rich and ancient heritage in the gems and jewellery industry, but it is also constantly innovating. Now, it is time for our jewellers to create an international brand that represents India in this sector," said Governor Radhakrishnan. He highlighted that while India is already a leader in the gems and jewellery market, establishing a globally recognized brand would further elevate the industry's standing.

The Governor also stressed the importance of involving students and young talent in this endeavour. "Incorporating the creativity and fresh perspectives of students can lead to the development of innovative designs and concepts that resonate globally," he added.

The five-day IIJS, which is the world's second-largest gem and jewellery show, serves as a platform for industry leaders, designers, and artisans to showcase their work and exchange ideas. Governor Radhakrishnan's call to action aims to inspire the industry to not only preserve its cultural heritage but also to push the boundaries of design and craftsmanship, setting new standards for Indian jewellery on the international market.
