ACCORDING to the Jewelry Consumer Opinion Council (JCOC), an online research division of MVI Marketing Ltd, 18 per cent of a total of 2,686 respondents to a survey said they would gift jewellery or a watch for Valentine’s Day, a 10 per cent decline from 2006.
“After ‘spouse’, ‘children’ was the largest group being given gifts for Valentine’s Day. The jewellery industry does not do enough to promote jewellery as a category for children,” said MVI president Liz Chatelain. %% Other highlights of the survey include; nearly one-quarter of the respondents said they would spend $101- $200, while 11 per cent said they would spend $1,000 or more on Valentine’s Day jewellery gifts. Yellow gold was the most popular metal and after watches, earrings were the top pick for jewellery.
