The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has opened a new School of Gemology and Jewelry Arts campus in Taiwan on March 29, 2026. The facility will deliver gemological education with a focus on Chinese-language instruction.

The Taiwan campus is the only GIA location globally offering the full Graduate Gemologist diploma programme in Chinese. The institute stated that the expansion aims to improve accessibility for regional students and support industry workforce requirements.

Located near Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT station in Taipei, the campus provides connectivity to Taipei Main Station, Xinyi District and Zhongshan commercial area. The school will also offer weekend and evening classes to accommodate working professionals and new entrants to the trade.

GIA President and CEO Pritesh Patel said that education remains central to the institute’s operations, adding that the Taiwan campus will expand GIA’s education services and resources at both local and global levels.

GIA Chief Learning Officer Cathryn Ramirez said the Taiwan school is the only GIA campus worldwide to provide the Graduate Gemologist diploma entirely in Chinese, positioning it as a distinct addition to the institute’s global education network.

The opening ceremony included participation from Vivian Po-Yun Wang, Director of the GIA Taiwan Campus; Jing-Wen Tian, President of the GIA Alumni Association Taiwan Chapter; and Chien-Min Tseng, Chairman of the Jewelry & Gold Association of the Republic of China.

The event featured guest remarks, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, campus tours and a Lion Dance performance. A GIA Taiwan Alumni Chapter seminar and meeting was also held, with remarks by Nicole Garcia, GIA Executive Director of Alumni Development and Alumni Relations, followed by a closing banquet.

GIA’s presence in Taiwan dates back to 1991, when its original school was established to serve local and international students. The new campus continues this initiative, reinforcing the institute’s focus on gemological education and training.
