Gemological Science International conducted a Jewellery Excellence Workshop in Indore, training senior retail teams across Madhya Pradesh to improve product knowledge, customer engagement, and handling of laboratory-grown diamond queries.
Gemological Science International (GSI) organised its Jewellery Excellence Workshop in Indore, bringing together senior sales representatives from jewellery retailers across Madhya Pradesh for a focused training programme.
The workshop aimed to address the shift in consumer behaviour, where buyers increasingly enter stores with prior research on diamonds and gemstones. The programme focused on strengthening product knowledge and improving in-store communication.
Participants underwent training on the four Cs of diamonds, with emphasis on identifying variations in colour and clarity and explaining their impact on pricing and value. The sessions were designed to help retail staff translate technical knowledge into customer-facing conversations.
The workshop also included hands-on exposure to gemstones, allowing participants to examine physical samples and understand optical phenomena such as colour-change, asterism, and play-of-colour.
A key component of the training covered screening techniques used to differentiate laboratory-grown diamonds from natural diamonds. This was positioned as essential knowledge for addressing increasing consumer queries on origin and pricing.
In addition to technical training, the programme incorporated structured communication modules, including customer interaction frameworks and role-play scenarios based on real showroom situations. The focus remained on improving clarity and consistency in customer engagement.
“We’ve seen how much the consumer mindset has evolved. Retail teams must match that evolution with genuine expertise. Our workshops focus on building confidence grounded in science, and translating that knowledge into conversations that create trust,” said Ramit Kapur of GSI India.
“GSI’s workshop transformed our team’s confidence. They now explain stones clearly, handle tough questions, and engage customers as experts rather than salespeople,” said Priyesh Nagar of Madanlal Chaganlal Jewellers, Indore.
GSI stated that the workshop is part of its ongoing efforts to extend gemological expertise to retail teams, with a focus on improving transparency and knowledge standards across jewellery showrooms.
