India has started buying diamonds directly from Russia and further wants to source from other producing nations. This move is viewed to secure long-term supplies and save on purchase costs.%%Relaxation in Russian export rules earlier this year has proved fairly fruitful, following which India has been importing diamonds worth $10-12 million (Rs40-48 crore) every month directly from Russia.%%Traditionally, most of the diamonds in india are bought from companies such as De Beers and Rio Tinto. Reportedly, india is ready to buy goods upto $ 1 Billion annually from Russia. The purchases currently are being made from state owned Russian firms such as Alrosa and Gokhran.%%Developing relations direct with the producing countries is being considered very important for the long term interests of the Indian diamond industry.
