Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) collected 801 units of blood during a single-day blood donation drive held at its Mumbai complex on June 17, marking the highest single-day collection in the organization's history.

The initiative was organized following requests from five hospitals and blood banks that highlighted an acute shortage of blood supplies in the city. Members of BDB, the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), Mumbai Diamond Merchants’ Association (MDMA), cardholders, employees, trade partners, government officials and volunteers participated in the drive.

The collected blood units were distributed to Jaslok Hospital Blood Centre, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital Blood Centre, Bhatia Hospital–Mahatma Gandhi Blood Centre, Breach Candy Hospital Trust Blood Centre and Meenatai Thackeray Blood Centre–BMC. Among those who participated were Indraveer Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Precious Cargo Customs Clearance Centre, BKC, and Jayesh Prabhakar Jadhav, Assistant Commissioner, Precious Cargo Customs Clearance Centre, BKC. According to BDB, the 801 units collected are expected to generate 2,403 blood components for patients requiring medical treatment.

Commenting on the initiative, Mehul Shah, Vice President, BDB, said, “This staggering achievement is a shining example of the compassion, solidarity, and profound social responsibility that defines the BDB community. When our city’s hospitals sent out an urgent SOS, the humanitarian response from our members and partners was truly overwhelming. These are not just 801 units of blood; they are powerful symbols of hope and humanity that will help transform hundreds of lives.”

Shah also acknowledged the contribution of volunteers and thanked participants who responded to the appeal. He further recognized the efforts of the BDB Security & Fire Safety Team for coordinating the drive and managing operations throughout the day. The blood donation campaign brought together industry stakeholders, trade associations and public officials to support healthcare institutions facing shortages in blood inventory.
