The Government of Mozambique has taken an aggressive decision and stopped all precious stone trading for sometime, to resolve the illegal sale of stones to “unregistered foreign buyers present in the country”. In a report on Independent Online, Investment Promotion Centre stated that the recent discoveries of precious stones like tourmalines and rubelite in Mozambique attracted illegal dealers from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Senegal and other countries.
