According to a National Retail Federation (NRF) survey, the Black Friday weekend saw over 147 million shoppers making purchases, converting to a 4.8% increase over the Black Friday weekend in 2006.%%The average spending however declined by a 3.5% this year to $347.44 each, as compared to last year.$$With the intent to capitalise on this weekend, retailers opened their stores earlier than scheduled, some opened at midnight, and this accounted for 14.3% of the shoppers visiting the stores at 4:00 a.m., as compared to 12.4% last year. "While last year showed a greater emphasis on high-definition televisions, this year consumers were focused on lower priced doorbusters like digital photo frames, laptops and cashmere sweaters," mentiond NRF CEO Tracy Mullin.
