Union Budget 2011 leaves G&J industry disappointed

1% duty introduced for branded jewellery; precious little for exports

Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council vice chairman, Vasant Mehta has been appointed as the honorary advisor to the Chinese diamond industry, by the vice minister at the Chinese commerce ministry, Ma Xiuhong. The announcement was made at the recently held 2007 China International Diamond Conference in Shanghai.
