Christie’s has announced the results of its sale at Hong Kong. The sale took place on May 28, and earned total revenue of $60.1 million, a feat for the industry. The sale has caught industry attention not only for its quality of jewels, but more so as it was the most valuable jewellery auction till date. It created many records for the industry. Of the total lots, 75 percent were sold by lot and 87 percent by value. %% The auction had the largest diamond to be sold in Asia, which was the top lot of the auction The diamond was a 101.27 carat shield-shaped F colour VVS1 diamond which earned $6.21 million in the auction. Private developers were the drivers behind the sale who bid at top prices for the exclusive gems; a Christie’s trademark. %% Another record that was set at the auction was that nine of the top 10 lots which were bought, were purchased over $2 million. Amongst these was a 10.36 carat square-shaped fancy green diamond, bought for $3.48 million. Another gem, a 16.04 carat circular-cut D colour, potentially flawless VVS2 diamond fetched $3.34 million or $208,500 per carat – the world record price per carat for a colourless diamond at auction.
