Aber Diamond Corp. on Wednesday announced the mine plan development schedule at Canada’s Diavik mine will be reviewed following the closure of the ice road due to deteriorating weather conditions. The road services several mining and exploration operations northeast of Yellowknife, including the Diavik diamond mine and BHP Billiton’s Ekati diamond mine.%%Aber said that the suspension of mining operations was not contemplated. Operating conditions will be reviewed until March 25, 2006 but if current temperatures persist, the road may not reopen again this season according to Aber’s estimates.%% The Diavik mine has diesel fuel on site sufficient for about 10 or 11 months of operations. Aber said a number of critical loads that exceed size limitations for air transport are being reviewed for disassembly or other alternatives for delivery.
