The founder and Chairman of Board of the Movado Group - Gedalio Grinberg, passed away on January 4, 2009. His contribution and involvement with the luxury segment spans almost 60 years. Born in Cuba in 1931, he settled in the US in 1960 and began his association with the watch business as an exclusive distributor for Piaget and Corum watches. He founded the North American Watch Company, known today as Movado Group - a $30 million plus company and expanded its vision into designing, manufacturing, distributing and marketing its own brands and as a licensee, acquired the Concord watch brand and Movado. The brand is a globally recognised luxury brand today. %% Grinberg was the first recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Jewelry Information Center. He was also known for his creative genius as he collaborated with the late Andy Warhol to design the first Movado Artists' Series watch and also worked with other known designers like Arman, Agam, James Rosenquist, Max Bill, and Romero Britto. %% Now, his son - Efraim Grinberg carries his legacy as the present president and chief executive officer of the company.
