In the event of a wall collapsing at a gold mine in north-western Tanzania, around 11 people are suspected to have lost their lives. The wall collapsed as miners were digging a shaft using hand tools and had reached a depth of about 140m (460ft). The mine is located at the town of Geita. %% The officials are however indicating a higher death toll. Although the region of Geita has been drawing miners over the years, it is reported that the activities of the prospectors are unregulated, which could lead to dangerous mining methods.
