Argyle Pink Diamond Cup

An intriguing polo match between Royal Jaipur Polo team and Western Australia Polo team was hosted recently by Rio Tinto to mark the inaugural Argyle Pink Diamond Cup.

Christie’s New York Sale was recently concluded, successfully selling 174 lots out of the total 208 lots offered on sale. The revenue generated was $19,293,675. Of the top 10 lots being bought, a pear-shaped D, Internally Flawless type IIa diamond weighing 30.02cts (priced at $133,000 per carat) was bought for $4,002,500. Another gem, a rectangular-cut D, VS1 diamond weighing 32.72cts was sold for $1,650,500, well within its estimated price. A Harry Winston pear-shaped D, VVS2 type IIa diamond pendant of 15.05cts, was bought for $986,500, while a cushion-cut Burmese ruby and diamond ring of 6.76cts generated $866,500 in its sale. %% Other lots included a rectangular-cut H, VVS2 diamond of 17.62cts being sold for $722,500, while a triangular-cut D, Internally Flawless type IIa diamond weighing 11.91cts was bought for $674,500. A Boucheron natural pearl and diamond sautoir, was sold for $398,500. A pear-shaped fancy vivid yellow, VS2 diamond of 10.46cts was bought for $386,500. A rectangular-cut light yellow VS2 diamond of 27.94cts amounted to $362,500 in its sale. A heart-shaped F VS2 diamond of 9.68cts was bought for $314,500. %% Rahul Kadakia, Christie’s Head of Jewelry, comments, “With more than $130,000 per carat achieved for a perfect diamond of 30.02cts, the market for colorless diamonds remains absolutely firm and very much in line with prices realised for similar stones this time last year. The sale attracted buoyant participation from private collectors and members of the trade from all over the world, setting a great tone for the Spring jewellery auction season.”
