According to reports, polished diamond imports in the U.S. decreased by 47 percent in April 2009, and amounted to $794.2 million. The exports of polished diamond also dipped by 46 percent, and valued at $589.8 million. In effect, the net polished imports, 9 calculated as amount of imports exceeding exports) in the U.S. slipped down by 52 percent to $204.4 million, in the said month. %% The rough diamond account also showed decreasing results. The imports of rough diamonds dipped by 64 percent and amounted to $20.6 million, while exports of rough diamonds decreased by 40 percent and valued $12 million. The net rough imports in the country were lowered by 76 percent to $8.6 million. %% The country’s net diamond account (calculated as total imports minus total exports) dipped by 54 percent to $213 million in the month.
