In the first quarter of 2010, Alrosa achieved selling more rough diamonds than it had anticipated for the period, reports say. The mining company sold $1 billion worth of roughs, all in the open market and none to the Russian Federation state repository, Gokhran, in the said three months, reports add. %% The company had reported in March 2010, that it expected sales to touch $935 million. Its $1 billion worth of first quarter sales valued just below half its total sales for full year 2009, reports say. Also the favourable market conditions allowed for the company to sell all its roughs in the open market, in comparison to the first half of 2009, when the company refrained from selling in the open market citing tough economic conditions. %% The company’s sales to Belgium and India in the first quarter of 2010 were through long term contracts, reports say. Also, the company is negotiating for similar supply contracts with leading Russian manufacturing companies and is also considering forming similar trade relations with Israeli and Chinese manufacturing companies.
