MINISTER of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh has called attention to employment-intensive export sectors on the occasion of a national seminar on ‘Poor Women’s Role in Global Trade’. The event, supported by the World Bank, was jointly organised by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA).$$Reports say Ramesh favoured boosting employment via export oriented jobs which would in turn boost exports.%%In order to integrate employment, exports and women’s issues, the Commerce ministry said it would give priority to employment-intensive sectors like gems and jewellery, leather, handlooms, handicrafts, agriculture, and shellac and minor forest produce. He said, select export promotion councils are working closely with the ministries of rural and urban development to synergise export promotion with the employment generation.
