The GJEPC recently inaugurated the second facility of Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ) in Mumbai, at Tardeo, Mumbai. This also becomes the fourth IIGJ institute in India, with one in Delhi, one in Jaipur and one already existing in Mumbai. %% The new institute was inaugurated by GJEPC chairman Shri Rajiv Jain amidst an attendance of Shri Vasant Mehta, chairman, IIGJ, Shri Sanjay Kothari, vice chairman, GJEPC, Shri Sabyasachi Ray, executive director, GJEPC, and Mrs. Namita Pandya, convener, IIGJ Tardeo. %% The GJEPC had initiated the IIGJ as a platform to support and grow talent in India’s gem and jewellery sector, and had introduced programmes and syllabus that would allow its students to have edge over students from similar training institutes. So far the curriculum is varied across the four institutes, but the GJEPC plans to bring ‘all certification and syllabus of the institutes under a common umbrella’. Currently, the courses include basic and advance jewellery designing, diamond grading and computer aided jewellery designing (CAD-RHINO) and a course in enamelling is expected to be introduced soon.
