Australia gave a low production of diamonds for the three months ending June 2007. The output declined by 40% to 4.52 million carats compared to the three months of last year.
The decline was consistent throughout the 12 months ending June 2007, as production amounted to 24.631 million carats, declining by 3%, as compared to the year ended June 2006. Also in terms of value, annual rough diamond exports declined by 13% to A$726 million ($609 million). The June quarter gave a dismal decline of diamond exports falling by 45% in value to A$125 million ($104.8 million) on a year-on-year basis.
