India’s first platinum mine at Boula in Orissa, being developed by Platinum Mining Corporation of India plc (PMCI), has received a termination order from the Indian federal authorities. The reason to stop mining activities is that the site lies within the wildlife zone.
The decision is being argued by PMCI’s venture partner Ferro Alloys Corporation Limited (FACOR) in the civil court, and has requested for a joint survey.
PMCI hasn’t begun mining for platinum group metals in the Boula region, and FACOR would continue its operations.
