Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) has inaugurated a state-of-the-art strong room for precious cargo at the Departure area of Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), Mumbai. The new facility marks a major advancement in BDB’s mission to provide secure and streamlined logistics for the export and import of gems and jewellery.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by key customs and industry dignitaries, including Shri Surjit Bhujabal, Member Customs; Ms. Prachi Saroop, Principal Chief Commissioner, Customs Mumbai Zone–III; Shri Alok Jha, Commissioner – Airport; Shri Nilank Kumar, Commissioner (General); and Shri Dhanayshwer Patil, Development Commissioner – SEEPZ.
Also present were prominent representatives from the gem and jewellery trade: Shri Mehul Shah, Vice President, BDB; Shri Kirit Bhansali, Chairman, GJEPC; Shri Shaunak Parikh, Vice Chairman, GJEPC; Shri Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director, GJEPC; Shri Anup Zaveri, BDB Customs Convenor; and Shri Ajesh Mehta, Diamond Panel Member, GJEPC.
Designed to cater to the specific needs of the gem and jewellery sector, the cutting-edge strong room will offer high-security storage and seamless handling for precious cargo. The facility also supports the personal carriage of valuable consignments, significantly enhancing the convenience and confidence of exporters and importers operating through Mumbai Airport.
This initiative reinforces BDB’s ongoing efforts to strengthen India’s position as a global hub for diamond and jewellery trade by aligning infrastructure with international standards.
