The International Institute of Gemology (IIG) South, the education arm of Laxmi Diamonds, celebrated its 4th Convocation Ceremony at Shangri-La Hotel, Bengaluru, recognising the achievements of 220 graduating students who are set to embark on their professional journeys in the gems and jewellery sector.
The event was attended by prominent dignitaries including Dr. Joy Alukkas, Chairman of Joyalukkas Group, Shri Samruddhi V Manjunath, CMD of SiriSamruddhi Gold Palace Pvt. Ltd. and MLA, Government of Karnataka, alongside parents, alumni, and industry leaders. The gathering was also graced by Mr. Chetan Kumar Mehta, Chairman & MD of Laxmi Diamonds and the driving force behind IIG South, and Mr. Rahul Desai, CEO & MD of IIG, whose leadership has made the institute one of India’s fastest-growing jewellery education centres.
The convocation was marked by several key highlights. IIG South announced a strategic collaboration with Jain (Deemed-to-be) University to launch a Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc) programme in Gems & Jewellery Design, expanding higher education opportunities in the sector. Another highlight was the release of “Spreading Joy,” the autobiography of Dr. Joy Alukkas, with each student receiving a signed copy.
Adding to the celebrations, IIG alumni who have successfully launched their own jewellery brands showcased their entrepreneurial journeys through dedicated stalls, underlining the institute’s role in nurturing innovators. The evening also featured the 15th edition of Coffee with Chetan Kumar Mehta, where Dr. Joy Alukkas shared insights with students in an interactive session. A curated exhibition of sketches, ornaments, and award-winning designs further showcased the creative brilliance of IIG South’s talent.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Chetan Kumar Mehta said, “At IIG South, we don’t just teach jewellery; we nurture innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders who will shape the future of this industry.”
Mr. Rahul Desai added, “Every convocation is a proud milestone for IIG. It is inspiring to see our students step forward with the blessings of industry stalwarts. Our mission remains clear – to empower the next generation of jewellery leaders with knowledge, skills, and vision.”
