FURA Gems has secured certification from the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), marking a development in the adoption of formal compliance standards within the coloured gemstone segment.

The certification follows an independent third-party audit assessing the company’s adherence to the RJC Code of Practices, which covers business ethics, human rights, labour conditions, environmental performance, and supply chain due diligence. FURA’s operations, spanning ruby and sapphire mining assets across Australia and Mozambique, were included within the scope of the assessment.

The move positions FURA among the early adopters of structured, globally recognized standards in a segment traditionally characterised by fragmented and less formalized supply chains. The company has also been advancing traceability initiatives, including blockchain-enabled systems designed to track gemstones from mine to market.

For Indian jewellers and manufacturers, the development reflects a broader shift in sourcing expectations from international retailers and luxury brands, particularly in export-driven markets. As demand grows for verifiable provenance and transparent sourcing practices, compliance with frameworks such as RJC is increasingly influencing supplier selection and procurement strategies.

The certification is expected to contribute to greater standardisation within the coloured gemstone pipeline, with implications for how rubies and sapphires are sourced, marketed, and integrated into high-value jewellery collections.
