Thailand is gaining recognition as a jewellery manufacturing centre, with its production capabilities increasingly being considered by international jewellery brands and retailers. The shift challenges the long-standing perception that European manufacturing automatically represents higher quality.

The Financial Times has highlighted the growing acceptance of “Made in Thailand” as a quality marker in jewellery, reflecting the country’s established manufacturing base and its role in the international jewellery supply chain.

For jewellery businesses, the development is relevant to sourcing and manufacturing strategies as brands assess production capabilities beyond traditional European centres. Thailand’s growing recognition also places greater focus on manufacturing expertise as a factor in jewellery quality and brand positioning.

The shift comes as the international jewellery industry continues to operate across a geographically diverse manufacturing network. Thailand’s role in this network has expanded beyond production for domestic markets, with its manufacturing capabilities increasingly connected to international jewellery businesses.

The changing perception also challenges the established association between European origin and jewellery quality. For retailers and brands, country of manufacture can therefore become a more flexible component of sourcing decisions as manufacturing expertise develops across markets.

The FT report positions Thailand’s manufacturing sector within a broader change in the jewellery industry, where production capability, craftsmanship and supply-chain considerations are increasingly influencing how jewellery is sourced and produced.

For Indian jewellery manufacturers and exporters, the development also highlights the competitive landscape in international jewellery manufacturing, particularly as brands evaluate production destinations based on capability and quality rather than geography alone.
