Gold jewellery demand recovered as prices eased from record highs, encouraging consumers to resume purchases. Delhi’s Dariba Kalan market reported a nearly 20% increase in sales as customer footfall and purchase conversions improved.
Retailers indicated that consumers had postponed purchases during the sharp rise in gold prices and were returning as prices stabilised. The earlier increase in customs duty had also weighed on demand.
Organized jewellers reported growth in the June quarter. Kalyan Jewellers recorded revenue growth of over 38% in its India operations, with same-store sales rising 28%. Titan reported growth across its jewellery brands, supported by Akshaya Tritiya and wedding-related purchases, while Senco Gold also recorded strong revenue and same-store sales growth.
The recovery suggests that price corrections can revive deferred jewellery purchases. Sustaining this momentum will depend on gold price movements, affordability and consumer demand through the upcoming festive and wedding seasons.
