Jewelers of America (JA) along with 100 trade & government associations, large retailers and unions are keen that the U.S. Congress implement the Sales Tax Fairness and Simplification Act, which would allow U.S. states to mandate that sellers located in a different physical location from the buyers, must collect sales tax, specifically pertaining to the sales on the Internet and by catalog retailers. The JA and participating companies signed a letter to this effect.%%The law has been designed similar to the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement, which is a voluntary harmonisation agreement that not all states have signed. Since 2002, JA has been favoured that the sales by online jewellery sellers be taxed in faurness to the traditional retail jewellers.
