Proposed office in Mumbai. “We are planning to set up one office in Mumbai and the other in Delhi by the middle of this year,” S. Ramesh, general manager (India & Sri Lanka) global procurement of Wal-Mart told The Telegraph. “The Mumbai office will look after sourcing of textiles, apparel, gems and jewellery, while the Delhi office will concentrate on stainless steel and home decoration products and apparel,” he added.

Wal-Mart’s Bangalore office, which employs close to 80 employees, serves as its global procurement hub for sourcing of merchandise from India, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Last year, Wal-Mart purchased Indian goods for its global retail chain worth around $1.5 billion, an increase of 25 per cent compared to $1.2 billion in 2004.
