The Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) has selected Mumbai, as the next venue for its Antwerp Diamond Day workshop and networking event. This initiative stems from efforts of AWDC to promote diamond trading between Belgium and overseas markets. In Mumbai, it is scheduled for March 25, 2010 and will be a highlight of the economic trade mission to be led by HRH Prince Philippe of Belgium from March 20-27. %% AWDC CEO Freddy J. Hanard will introduce the Antwerp Diamond Day with an overview of the Belgian diamond trade and opportunities it can offer to Indian businesses. %% Antwerp has been the primary supplier of rough diamonds to India’s manufacturing centre, and with forecasts indicating that the Indian diamond sector is set to expand in the next five years, the Belgian diamond sector is seeking stronger ties with the country. India’s gems and jewellery exports are worth $18-20 billion annually, but the industry is expected to grow at around 13 percent annually and is forecast to reach exports of $35-40 billion in 2015. %% The Antwerp Diamond Day has a two fold approach - one being networking and the other being a practical workshop. Dr. Jef Van Royen, Senior Research Scientist at HRD Antwerp, Research, will present a talk on ‘Science supporting confidence in diamonds’, highlighting the importance of research into diamonds and its central role at HRD Research. Werner Van Der Cruyssen, Customs Attache at the Belgian Embassy in India, will highlight customs formalities. Also, leading players in the Indian diamond trade will gain an opportunity to interact with their counterparts from Belgium to discover business opportunities. A reception has been organised in the presence of HRH Prince Philippe.
