The donation is a result of funds raised at Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF) and the Embassy of the Republic of Botswana’s 'Salute to Botswana, Diamond Empower Africa' event held in Washington, D.C., in July. DEF members, in collaboration with representatives from Tiffany & Co., presented the cheque to members of the Botswana delegation on October 12 2012. "Botswana is a shining example of the positive impact diamonds have on communities when good governance is coupled with wise management of natural resources,” Phyllis Berman, DEF Board President, said in a statement.
