Launch marks a redefinition of heritage, legacy, and contemporary design in fine jewellery
Renowned luxury jewellery designer Meenu Subbiah today launched three distinctive jewellery brands – Vilasam, Vamsam and Menaya – each rooted in unique design philosophies that span revival, reimagination, and innovation.
Vilasam: The Chettinad Revival
Paying homage to the grandeur of Chettinad’s cultural legacy, Vilasam draws from two decades of research into the region’s art and architecture, from Athangudi tiles to ceiling paintings. Traditional Aasaris, with roots in the Chola and Pandya dynasties, have handcrafted each piece. Signature designs include Mayil Maguri, a peacock-inspired jewel adorned with diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires; Kalinga Tara, a versatile emerald-and-ruby piece that can be worn as head ornament, brooch or pendant; and Poo Malar Infinity Jhumkas, inspired by Chettinad mansion windows.
Vamsam: A Legacy Reimagined
Vamsam brings together India’s diverse traditions—Kerala’s Mullai Mottu and Kasumala, Andhra’s Guttapoosalu, Rajasthani Kundan, and Mughal Jali work—presented as modern heirlooms. Highlights include Divya Alankaram, a Nakasu necklace depicting Goddess Lakshmi surrounded by diamond petals; Ranakpur Chakra Choker, inspired by temple geometry and rose-cut diamonds; and The Eternal Emerald Heirloom, a cabochon emerald bracelet with diamond halos.
Menaya: Everything Unconventional
Menaya is forward-looking, redefining jewellery with versatility and technology-driven innovation. Standouts include Touch Me Not, a flexible emerald-and-diamond neckpiece designed for evening elegance; Chandeliers Every Way, 360-degree rotating diamond earrings; and The White and Grey Wave, a fluid matte-finish gold jewel with invisibly set mixed-cut diamonds.
Speaking at the launch, Meenu Subbiah said, “With over three decades of experience, we’ve earned a legacy of immense trust, and our customers have become part of our family. This launch is a redefining moment in our journey. With Vilasam, we are renewing our Chettinad identity, with Vamsam we are celebrating legacy that transcends time, and with Menaya, we are embracing the future. It has been a labour of love and I am delighted to share these new brands with our patrons.”
With these three launches, Subbiah positions her design house at the intersection of heritage craftsmanship, cultural storytelling, and contemporary innovation—offering luxury jewellery that honours the past while shaping the future.
