The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) Kolkata Regional Office has initiated a four-day Customs Training Program for Customs appraisers from December 1 to 4 2025. The programme is being conducted at the International Air Cargo Complex, Kolkata, a key export processing point for the gem and jewellery trade.

According to GJEPC, the initiative aims to deepen understanding of sector-specific procedures among appraisers and strengthen operational efficiency during export clearances. Training modules are expected to focus on documentation, valuation awareness, handling protocols and compliance requirements associated with gem and jewellery exports.

The training was inaugurated in the presence of Shilpi Srivastava, Joint Commissioner of Customs. Addressing participants, Pankaj Parekh of GJEPC, Kolkata, said that specialised and continuous skill development enables appraisers to carry out their responsibilities with greater precision, contributing to smoother export processes for the industry.

GJEPC has been conducting similar programmes across various regions to support harmonised practices and improve coordination between Customs officials and the trade. The Council noted that efficient appraisal and documentation procedures are critical to maintaining timelines at export hubs, particularly during peak shipping periods.

The Kolkata programme reinforces ongoing efforts to reduce procedural bottlenecks and improve overall ease of doing business for gem and jewellery exporters operating through the region.
