African Diamond Producers Association congratulates India on assuming Kimberley Process chairmanship for 2026, counters African Diamond Council objections, and confirms cooperation plans, with International Diamond Manufacturers Association amplifying the position.
The African Diamond Producers Association (ADPA) has congratulated India on assuming the chairmanship of the Kimberley Process (KP) for 2026, publicly contradicting the position taken by the African Diamond Council (ADC).
In a statement, ADPA said it welcomes India’s election as KP Chair and noted that India has been an ADPA Observer country since 2025. The association stated that its member countries are prepared to work closely with India during its tenure.
“ADPA member states are committed to working closely with India during its chairmanship to further strengthen the KP,” the association said.
ADPA also reiterated its institutional position on the Kimberley Process, describing it as the only universally recognised certification scheme mandated by the United Nations to regulate the trade of rough diamonds. It emphasised that the KP is underpinned by the three pillars of government, industry and civil society.
“The African Diamond Producers Association, empowered by its member states, reaffirms its unwavering commitment and support to the KP,” the statement added.
ADPA was established on November 4, 2006, through the Luanda Declaration. It is an intergovernmental organisation headquartered in Luanda, Angola, representing leading African diamond-producing countries and advocating collectively for their interests in the global diamond industry.
The International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA) has amplified ADPA’s views, further reinforcing industry support for India’s chairmanship and the continued central role of the Kimberley Process in regulating rough diamond trade.
